Norman Ives (1923-1978): Constructions & Reconstructions Submitted by Garson Yu (USA)
Norman Ives (1923-1978): Constructions & Reconstructions, written by author / designer John T. Hill, is an overview of AGI member Norman Ives’ personal work, his graphic design, teaching and publishing.
As a member of the Yale Graphic Design faculty alongside fellow AGI members Herbert Matter, Paul Rand, Armin Hofmann and Bradbury Thompson, Ives helped reformulate the field of design in its transition from commercial art.
Although famous as a graphic designer, Ives received recognition in applied and fine arts. In 1967, Ives was featured at both the Whitney Annual Exhibition of American Artists and the Museum of Modern Art. His work is also in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum.
The book is scheduled for publication in late 2020. Contact John T. Hill at jthill84@sbcglobal.net for pre-order information.
